Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is relishing the chance to start working with United's Reserves this week.

The Norwegian begins full-time training with his young charges when they return to the Carrington training complex on Tuesday, and he warns that they will need to match his burning ambition to succeed.

"I’m really looking forward to it," he told Inside United. "It’s a great challenge. I felt that I needed a little bit more responsibility than I had, and when the club asked I was delighted, it’s a great step for me.

"It is a big job and a nice job to have - and it’s also a great time to have those players. They’re all 18 or 19, on the verge of breaking into first team football either here or on loan at other clubs, so you’ve got determined, hungry boys who match my ambition."

With a gruelling pre-season fitness regime designed to quickly get the players up to speed, Solskjaer admits that he will be a harsh task master.

"I think you need to push them a bit," he said. "But the boys want to be pushed as well. It’s not a doddle being a professional footballer, so I think they’ll have their fair share of sweat!"
